Home Remedies for Shingles

 

Shingles also known as Herpes Zoster is a reactivation of the chickenpox virus in the body resulting in painful rashes. Itchy blisters might occur on your back, chest, face and then spread to the rest of your body. The virus which is the real culprit for causing Shingles is Varicella Zoster. If you have had chickenpox you are likely to get Shingles if your immune system is weak.

The rash can be a cluster of fluid-filled blisters which are quite distinctive. Early symptoms are itching, tingling, burning, and pain. Other ones include fever, headache, and upset stomach. The Shingles blisters can take as long as 2-4 weeks to completely disappear. Though there are a number of rash relievers and anti-itch lotions but one can always look up to the following home remedies to alleviate pain:

  • Oatmeal bath: If your skin feels itchy and irritated you better opt for an oatmeal bath. Not just it will soothe the pain but also reduce inflammation. Grind some oatmeal and pack it in coffee filter bags. Put them in hot water in the bathtub and add olive oil. Next, you know what to do!

  • Baking Soda: It has a lot of uses in medical health. To treat particularly Shingles, mix baking soda with some water and make a good paste. Apply this mixture with a cotton ball to the rash skin for 15 minutes and then rinse off with water. Dry it with a soft towel and wash the towel.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar: This natural ingredient needs no introduction. Having amazing medicinal properties like anti-viral, anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties, it helps soothing painful rashes. Oral consumption of Apple cider vinegar also helps to heal faster.

  • Virgin Coconut Oil: Another excellent remedy which acts as an immune system booster and reduces inflammation both internally and externally is coconut oil. With a soft cotton ball dipped in coconut oil apply it on the affected area and leave it overnight. Results will be surely positive!
