Causes

  • As per Ayurveda,  anxiety is mainly caused by vitiated Prana and Vyana Vata.
  • Anxiety caused due to fear of desire is known as Unmada meaning insanity.

  • Ayurveda emphasizes on curbing aggravated prana Vata by increasing sattva guna. This enhances the peaceful mind through self-control, self-realization, and changes in diet and lifestyle.
  • Common herbs used for anxiety - Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Jatamnsi (Nardostachys jatamansi), Ginkgo Biloba, etc.

Diet and Lifestyle

  • Eat more fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, sprouts, fruit juice, vegetable juice, dry fruits, ghee, fresh butter, buttermilk, milk, and honey.
  • Consume less black tea, coffee, chocolates, deeply fried fruits, hot spices, meat, fish, white flour products, white sugar products and eggs.
  • Practice deep breathing. While having anxiety attack breath in and let the diaphragm expand and contract while breathing out. This will relax your mind and body.
  • Exercise meditation and yoga techniques.
