Sinusitis is inflammation or blockage of sinuses due to deposition of nasal mucus. Ayurveda believes that sinusitis occurs due to an imbalance of Vata and Kapha Dosha. Regular imbalance of these Doshas causes pitta dosha to aggravate and reduces immunity of the body. Sinusitis occurs due to increased intake of indigestible, heavy and incompatible food or due to too hot, spicy or too cold food. This causes accumulation of Kapha(water) in the sinuses and thus obstructs the flow of Vata(air). Pitta (fire) causes inflammation of the tissues of the sinus. It could be because of repeated respiratory infections, dust or pollen allergy, dry weather or impaired immunity.
Sinusitis causes difficulty in breathing, headaches, fever, inflammation around eyes, nose, and cheeks, cough and thick mucus discharge. It causes the person to feel irritated and fatigued.
